This week I have learned:
- it’s the ability to spot the serendipity that makes it valuable. Sometimes it just passes us by. Other times it smacks us in the face.
- the countryside is great. But I only like to visit.
- getting some notes out about a thing is really useful practice. It’s all about the luck surface area.
- occasionally you get to have conversations through introductions with people where you just resonate with one another. I had at least three of those this week.
- getting stuff ready to go away for a couple of weeks is an exercise in cat-herding.
The week in media:
Saw
- Human League, Marc Almond and Blancmange at Ludlow Castle. Human League were fab, the others not bad. It’s a beautiful setting. It’s also nice to go to a gig where I felt relatively young.
- Speak No Evil, a 2024 thriller on Netflix. Found it quite nerve-wracking which I guess is what a thriller is supposed to do.
- The first few episodes of Wayward. Crazy teenagers and 90s nostalgia.
Read
- Continuing Margaret Heffernan’s Embracing Uncertainty. The section about education (and how we systematically teach kids to not be creative) is particularly hard-hitting.
Listened
- the new Nia Archives album, which I really like.
