There’s a Riot Going On is wonky, dirty, grimy funk. Soul music emerging out of the excesses of the hippy ’60s. And Family Affair sonically one of the cosiest songs ever recorded. It cushions you. Wraps you up.
And on Spaced Cowboy there’s yodelling.
The whole thing makes me simultaneously glad and jealous that I didn’t experience the 1960s in its full technicolour cliche.
