CIO Priority 5:

Move to Platform as a Service

In my mind PaaS is the future of software development. From the reality of technology infrastructure today (servers, disks, disk space quotas and so on even if all virtualized in the world of IaaS) to a world that is server-less, where coffee can Ryan and run happily without constraint.

As far as I can tell, this is still mostly a pipe dream. And as a result of a CIO is talking about moving to PaaS then it probably requires deeper questioning. Platforms could be things on which code run, but they could also be all manner of discrete services: identity, payment, location, personalisation or a wealth of other things.

I’ve recently launched Stamp London’s first physical product – a set of playing cards called CIO Priorities. You can find out more about them here, and order a set for yourself here (or simply download the PDF and print them out).
