Scissor Sisters – Comfortably Numb
In late September 2004 my life seemed, for a while, to enter something of a soap opera. In the space of about five days I handed in my notice at the BBC after nearly eight years there, saw my first marriage break up, and lost my grandfather (in the dying kind of way, not in the bloomin' heck Westfield is a big place for an old boy kind of way). As a result, it felt like the wheels came off my life for a period.
At the end of the year I spent a weekend in Prague with my soon-to-be work colleagues, getting to know them at the work Christmas party. Comfortably Numb seemed to be playing where ever we were, and it summed up a mood for me of the time.
Number one on my birthday in 2004: Girls Aloud – I'll stand by you One for you, Keith.
