The Cure – Lovesong
And so to the last year of the 1980s, and a song by The Cure, the only band that I become a bit obsessed with.
There was something mystical about Robert Smith. The crumpled clothes, the bird's nest hair, the hi-top trainers, the wavering voice and the songs. My old Smooly Batrash compadre, Alex, introduced me to them, and (after about a year or so of persistence), I came under the band's spell.
Lovesong was taken from what many regard as the band's high spot – Disintegration. I think I probably prefer Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, but this is probably my favourite Cure song. A master pop song.
Number one on my birthday in 1989: New Kids on the Block – You Got It No, I haven't.
