New Order – True Faith
My favourite song. Ever.
True Faith is special to me in so many ways. New Order were a musical bridge for me, taking me from hip hop and electronica into the world of guitars, indie and later grunge.
The video a kaleidoscope of colour, oversized dogs, and face slapping.
And the song itself is simple enough for even me to work our the chord progressions on a keyboard, but a master class of a pop song, and with the right level of shout-along meaningful meaningless lyrics that I am starting to realise I seem to appreciate.
New Order also were the second band I saw live (Lloyd Cole and the Commotions the first – both at Wembley Arena). Live, it has to be said, Bernard Sumner makes anyone think they could be the lead singer in a band…
Number one on my birthday in 1987:T'Pau – China in your Hand The Biggest, Reddest Hair in Pop History.
