This week I have learned:
- the enjoyment to be had at a marathon. Assuming that you’re doing the baggage, rather than running 26.2 miles which, from the look of it, looks like a laudable aim but bloody painful. Doing the baggage at the Kew RunFest is the closest I’ll come to doing a marathon, especially with my dodgy ankles.
- that the news that WB-40 will be coming to an ellipsis (thank you, Janice, for that lovely phrasing) is now out in the open. It was a gut-wrenching decision to bring 10 years of making audio to a close. I love audio as a medium. I’ve adored making the show. But it’s time to wrap it up. One last show is coming next month, when Chris and I will no doubt reminisce.
- I’ve been playing around with the idea that, right now, the bottlenecks to software delivery in organisations are anything but the actual development of code, and what limitless LLM coding machines will do to those bottlenecks. It might be messy.
- I’ve also been thinking about how the success of Product Management as a discipline might be a massive exercise in survivorship bias. So many pieces from The Book keep cropping up in my day-to-day.
- pricing is an act of psychology, not economics.
- leadership is an act of psychology, not economics.
- why do we place so much faith in economics?
- my speakers are back from a short break. Apparently, the manufacturers found nothing wrong. I fear I might have to video a lot of my listening to show them what’s actually going wrong. (Another example of how hardware businesses shouldn’t, as a general rule, be let anywhere near software. See also automotive companies.)
