This week, I have learned:
- Some potential health challenges ahead for the older members of the clan. I’m continuing to work through how confronting mortality is increasingly a part of daily life as you age.
- Reaching the first milestone of a clear content plan for the book project is satisfying. Undoubtedly, though, some actual writing needs to start soon.
- A colleague today made an interesting observation about Conway’s Law: the nature of an organisation’s work and systems can be shaped by its structure.
- Serendipity can strike when you are in person—this week, we bumped into our client’s CEO at the front door and struck up a nice conversation.
- But it can also happen online if you are intentional. A chat with a chap in Australia about designing card decks and games allowed me to recall a facilitation tool I built years ago, which applies to my current work.
- It’s always nice when someone asks if they can use something I created in something they are doing. I wish I could remember everything I’ve done (see point before).
- I will speak at the Manchester Tech Festival on 6th November. This will be a road test for some of the ideas in one of the book chapters and will also involve live interactivity. I’ve a couple of colleagues working on a couple of simple web apps that will be used on the day and also available as helpful tools afterwards.
- Last weekend was a child-free escape to Wiltshire. It was lovely.
- The holiday starts tomorrow. Expect photo updates here…
Next week: Go East, young man.
