This week I have learned:
- Presenting is nerve-wracking. Even more so when you are put into specifically constrained conditions. Pitch presenting is very nerve-wracking. It’d be more accurately described as a viva.
- I’ve again been spending a bit of time using ChatGPT as a coding partner. It’s interesting how things that you think should surely be relatively simple can take hours, but then not knowing if it’s because they are surprisingly difficult, or simply that the approach you are taking to solve the problem is complicating matters. Prior knowledge is so important in achieving so many things, and this is what’s often missed by AI evangelists. It’s not what you know that’s the issue – it’s what you don’t know, you don’t know.
- A metaphor can sometimes be the hook that unites disparate ideas and concepts when telling a story. Beware Swiss Toni syndrome, though.
- I’ve been continuing to enjoy our new routine with presenters on WB-40. It will take us some time to learn one another’s mannerisms, though – Chris and I have got to be able to read the non-verbal stuff over a video call really well after seven and a half years.
- The Trevor Horn autobiography is thoroughly recommended.
- What the hell was Sunak thinking with that Flipchart shtick? Maybe it was just a dead cat to deflect from the vile transphobia.
Next week: one more pitch
