This week I have learned:
- the gods of work activity obviously think it’s funny to have lots of stuff happen in the week before I go on holiday. Hopefully, everything will be left in a state where it won’t be “in a state” when I get back.
- The way in which money cycles around businesses is a branch of social psychology that really hasn’t yet been fully explored. Economics and accountancy merely scratch the surface.
- My long-held view that you can tell all you need to know about a business from its office reception area is getting challenged by organisations being less obsessed with having offices as status symbols.
- The PicoPresso is a delightfully over-engineered coffee maker, and I’m thoroughly enjoying making coffee with it. A complete extravagance.
- I’ve met lots of interesting people this year. Sitting down and reviewing the full #100Coffees list has been a valuable experience.
- The demise of Babylon Health has really, really annoyed me. The business was always tech hype + parasite on public spending business model. It’s no surprise it wasn’t sustainable.
- It’s also no surprise that WeWork still doesn’t work, even without the messiah at it’s helm. Sunk Cost Fallacy rides again.
- I’m going to Manchester next month and am really looking forward to seeing folk up there.
- It was an absolute delight to be able to introduce my youngest to the artistic marvel that is Steve Chapman at the weekend at his current exhibition. It’s still on this weekend – go and see it!

- It’s time for a holiday.
Next week: a holiday
