I had a very useful catch up today with Tim Dunn who is Director of Strategy at Isobar Mobile. We covered off a number of subjects, but one thing that came out towards the end of the conversation was a new reason for why one might build an app, rather than a website (following on from my post last year about “when to app”).
Going to a website doesn’t have any intrinsic value – a free app, however, is an act of giving. As such an app has the potential to build up a stronger relationship between provider and customer than a mere URL. If that “gift” can also give more efficient access to the services that your company provides, then all the better.
An interesting perspective, and one that is the first strong, non-technical justification for an app that I’ve heard in a while.
