Emilliana Torrini – Today has been OK
I seemed to spend most of 2005 trying to sell a house in South West Herts, and commuting by car from there down to Gatwick Airport on a daily basis at a time when most of that stretch of the M25 was being worked on.
Given the tumultuous end to 2004, it was all a bit surreal.
One evening my old Smooly Batrash compadre, Alex, told me he had a ticket for me for a mystery gig. We drove over to Shepherd's Bush (always an experience being in a car driven by Mr Franklin), and rocked up at the very quaint Bush Hall.
The headline act was Emilliana Torrini, the second Icelandic act of this count up. An acoustic set in an intimate venue, the evening was enchanting; 'Today has been ok' was a sentiment that seemed apt for my mood at the time.
Number one on my birthday in 2005: Madonna – Hung Up She's like an old Lady Gaga.
