Joe Jackson – Steppin Out
I don't know why this song has stuck with me over the years, but it has. Something about it takes me back to the early eighties.
1982 saw the beginning of the football season that would nurture the affection for Watford that has stayed with me ever since. Starting with a 2-0 victory in our first top-flight game (at home to Everton), the 1982/83 season culminated with the club finishing runners up to Liverpool in the old First Division. We've never quite regained such heady heights.

  1. You love Stepping Out because it's a lovely song. But it sadly doesn't get a mention in This is Uncool, The 500 Greatest Singles Since Punk and Disco by the amazing Garry Mulholland (you can tell I consult this quite a lot). That might be because you had things like Say Hello, Wave Goodbye and Should I Stay or Should I Go?….
