The Real Thing – Can you feel the force?
So the last track from the 1970s, and a slice of massive disco/funk. I seem to remember my dad cajoling me into buying this with my pocket money because of the crazy synth intros and stereo effects in the first few seconds. It then goes from prototype electro into huge brass and enormous bongos.
Right, run out of superlatives. I seem to remember from the picture sleeve of the single there were some very stupendous glitter and lamé costumes for this lot as well.
It has also reminded me of the hours I used to sit in the front room in our first house in Watford pretending to be a radio DJ with what was a somewhat limited playlist. Only having a single deck didn't make much for continuous music either, but there again anyone who heard my efforts as a DJ on LCR in the early nineties probably wouldn't have heard much difference even with a pair of SL1200s at my disposal…
Number one on my birthday in 1979:Dr Hook – When you're in love with a beautiful woman Yep – the schmaltz is back.
