The Boomtown Rats – Rat Trap
The first of two examples in this count up where the number one on my birthday is the choice for the year.
Rat Trap was bought on seven-inch vinyl as my eighth birthday present for me by my sister. Well, actually I presume one of my parents bought it on her behalf because a) she was only five and b) she was in Mount Vernon Hospital, having her adenoids out (the sort of operation that they used to do in the seventies, but do no more).
Other than Sir Bob, the only other thing I remember about The Boomtown Rats was that they had a piano player called “Fingers” who always used to wear pyjamas. All in all, it's fairly random, the stuff we remember…
