This week I have learned:
- I’m getting better at understanding what gives me energy and what drains me. It’s been a week where I’m probably energy neutral overall.
- The bigger the organisation, the harder things get. I’m convinced of this. Public or private sector, it’s the scale that drives inefficiency. Unilateral activities in one place set off a chain of events. The Cobra Effect lives strong (even if the original story is apocryphal).
- The opportunity to speak for 5 minutes (maybe a few more) about a theme from The Book was wonderful. That’s a really good discipline. The 2-minute videos are even more testing. I’m reminded yet again of work experience at the Watford Observer when I was 16, rewriting page-long press releases into 30-word column fillers.
- I do love an audience. Holding their attention. Seeing them fascinated as to where the story goes next.
- Change continues to be hard and unpredictable.
- It’s great to catch up with people whom I mostly know because of the serendipity of the algos.
