This week I have learned:

  • the word “Shitrature” to describe the sort of book that is the sort of dip-in dip-out stuff you find in toilets.
  • of the Flourishing Business Canvas which looks fascinating (thanks to John W for both of the the above)
  • the sense of achievement in playing a new-to-the audience hit at the WB-40 Album Club
  • that I think my biggest issue with generative AI is that is appears to be the triumph of correlation at scale over understanding causation. Rather than talking about “hallucinations” (an inherently human state) we should talk perhaps about how the software has delivered a correlation that happens to be wrong.
  • the simply mad shit that goes on amongst the hyper-wealthy technorati.
  • Teenage Engineering have reminded me what it’s like to get excited about a software update. The new OS for the EP-133 has massively increased its functionality.
  • that next month I’ll be celebrating 15 years of writing weeknotes.

The week in media:

Watched:

  • I know this is behind the curve, but started watching A Hand Maid’s Tale. Gripping, terrifying and a little too adjacent to what has been going on in the US for the last ten years or so.

Listened:

  • getting back into Emiliana Torrini’s Miss Flower which was my album club album. The film of the album The Extraordinary Miss Flower is going on release next month.

Read:

  • Completed Inventology which is splendid. Now piling through Careless People which is Sarah Whynn-Williams’ expose of behind the scenes at Facebook.

Next week:

Ramping up again. Oh, and another drum machine edition.
