This week I have learned:
- the stated problem is often not the actual problem. It might be a symptom, it might be a solution. It might be a solution in search of a symptom.
Digging into that, but in a way that respects the starting point, is an artform. - Early stages of consulting engagements are all about building trust and rapport. Showing vulnerability at this stage really helps. Being human too.
That doesn’t appear to be the MO of the big firms. That’s where smaller firms can distinguish themselves positively. - There are a few people close to me who are suffering from physical pain at the moment. It’s horrible to feel so unable to help.
- These early days of Spring really are the best days, aren’t they? The warmth of the sun feels good, and at a time when I can still enjoy it before it burns my skin off.
- I love it when I see a team performing well. Even more so when I’ve had a little bit of involvement in helping them. To be proud of the achievement of others is a good feeling.
- I really struggle to see how anyone ever thought that out of town business parks were a good idea.
The week in media
Read:
Gettting closer to finishing Question 7. I’m not doing much reading at the moment, though.
Listened:
Caught up with the latest few episodes of 99% Invisible. I think I listen as much for Roman Mars’ voice as the content.
Watched:
A few episodes of the new series of Dragon’s Den. It’s total twaddle, but an enjoyable hour nonetheless.
Next week
Relative calm (or so it says here).
