This week I have learned:
- going out two nights running is a challenge these days. Probably more so because I still seem to wake up at the dawn chorus no matter when I collapse into bed.
- it was worth it, though. Tuesday saw a catch-up with a lovely client followed by going to the British Library to see Timandra Harkness interviewed about her new book. We are interviewing Timandra about it on the podcast next week.
- that also saw three of the WB-40 hosts in the same room at the same time. A first. One day, all five of us will get together.
- Wednesday was a delightful meal with my peers after an all-day offsite session. It was the first time we had all gathered in the two years I’ve been at Equal Experts (and indeed, the first time all engagement managers had gathered since 2019). Getting together to share experiences for people who do the same job but very much in parallel was really rewarding.
- In the afternoon we all shared “Manuals of Me”. It was an interesting exercise. I’ve had one (here) for some time now, but realise I don’t really point people at it instinctively. Some colleagues found it quite a hard exercise because they thought it quite egotistical. But reframing it as an exercise in helping others to work more effectively (with you) seems to help.
- Dinner at Otto’s was an experience. In a good way.
- I’ve started writing a diary. A private diary. I realised that although I work out loud, there are some things better kept out of my head but not in the wild. It’s been an experience.
- spent a few hours at the weekend mucking about with some music stuff but without a PC in the mix. It was like the old days…
- We found out on Monday that we didn’t win the thing we pitched for last week. It smarted a bit at the time, but I’m good with it now. In fact, so much else has been going on that I’d forgotten.
