Today’s coffee companion has made my efforts in having coffee look trifling.
We talked about:
- human scale organisations and connectedness
- the fundamentally irrational nature of how humans operate
- how organisations struggle when the place rational measures of control over irrational human behaviours
- the danger of comparing humans to machines (I’m rubbish at lifting heavy things in comparison to a steam engine, but steam engines suck at having coffee)
- how there is a German word to have coffee that captures the metaphorical nature of coffee
- small islands and how they can be testing grounds for bigger changes
- the inevitability of things getting smaller
- the importance of long noses as well as long tails, accepting tipping points and S curves
- that maybe the answer is as simple as just having coffee
- a tool to open up conversations
- how we are all wearing uniforms and masks
- how wearing a mask can allow you to drop the one you usually wear
